Welcome to PEERS

PEERS Vancouver created a Comic Book 'Act of Knowledge' to help support youth in our communities addressing issues of sexual exploitation. The youth-driven "comic book project" focused on the prevention and intervention of sexual exploitation of youth. This project has helped a diverse range of people within the youth community, and specifically enables the aboriginal youth community to better understand the issues relating to sexual exploitation as well as increases the awareness and capacity to prevent sexual exploitation.

Experiential people were brought together to create the storyboard for the comic book through dialogue and the sharing of experiences. The Comic Book, created by the theatre group Youth And Experiential Youth, contains three stories, community resources, and empowerment and safety tips.

The creation of this comic book, Act Out of Knowledge, has enhanced awareness and understanding around recruitment and sexual exploitation. We believe that this awareness will support a decrease in the number of youth who are sexually exploited as well give youth appropriate information which will allow them to make informed choices.

PEERS Vancouver's public awareness and distribution of these comic books into community centers, youth groups, youth centers and rural communities are the beginnings of helping youth discuss these very important issues of sexual exploitation. When youth participants are involved in Youth Forums on Sexual Exploitation, there are very apparent changes in both the experiential and non-experiential youth.
